Disheartened to hear his wife would not be home for Khmer New Year, a 34-year-old Kampong Chhnang man burned the home they shared to the ground along with that of his 71-year-old mother-in-law next door.

His wife was away working in Siem Reap. When she declined his invitation to return home for the holidays, he concluded she must be having an affair, and so set the house on fire last Friday.

He was arrested later the same day.
