A Poipet gambler’s unlucky streak took a decidedly dark turn over the weekend when he allegedly beat his wife when she refused to fuel his suspected addiction. The 28-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, after a neighbour called police when they witnessed the man hitting his wife with a broom, police said.

The victim told police that her husband’s violent outburst came after she refused to give him 20,000 riel ($5) to play cards, because she believes he has a gambling problem. KAMPUCHEA THMEY
