Batambang police denied hungry Phnom Penh diners their dinner on Tuesday after busting a truck with wild critters destined for some of the capital’s less-reputable restaurants.

Police got wind of the menagerie and saved 207 live turtles and snakes weighing 17 kilograms from becoming supper.

Police handed the restaurant-bound reptiles over to provincial forestry officials for release – taking their cue from the truck drivers, who earlier made a succesful escape.
