Long con, short-lived gains for capital grifter

A patron proved a cunning con artist after absconding with a Phnom Penh restaurant owner’s iPhone.

The diner spent weeks buddying up to the restaurant owner, police said, before finally asking to borrow his iPhone to call a few friends.

The lender agreed and turned back to work, only to turn around to find the borrower long gone. After a fitful week, the owner spotted the man on the street, chased him down and turned him over to authorities. Rasmei Kampuchea
