AUGUST 25: Cheang Chettra, 20, a motorbike taxi driver, was axed and severely

injured during a nighttime argument in Psar Doeumkor commune, Phnom Penh. Police

said Chettra was axed many times by Ty Thy, 20, and died later at Chintrea clinic

from massive head injuries. Thy was arrested immediately and told police that Chettra

promised to give him a prostitute but after he paid for it, Chettra did nothing and

tried to drive away.

AUGUST 25: Jin Xiaoyun, 36, a Chinese national, was found dead at a rental

house in Tuol Svayprey 2 commune, Phnom Penh. Police and officials from the Chinese

Embassy came to examine the body and said Xiaoyun was murdered with a heavy knife

two days ago because the body was swollen and smelled bad. The body of Xiaoyun was

sent to Calmette Hospital.

AUGUST 26: Um Sophal, 43, was fatally gunned down at midnight at a rental

house where he came upon while his wife Ban Vanno, 40, was having sex with a man

Pich Savurn in Psar Doeum Thkao commune, Phnom Penh. A witness said Vanno got out

of the room and aimed a handgun at Sophal then Savurn took the gun from her and shot

Sophal in the head and the back then he escaped with Vanno on a motodop. The witness

said Vanno came to meet Savurn at the rental house.

AUGUST 27: Mao Kim, 26, was arrested for a murder he committed the previous

day in Prey Prum village, Battambang province. Police said Kim killed Nim Thoeum,

22, after she stabbed him once in the shoulder during an attempted rape. Police said

Thoeum was beaten to death with a stick while looking after her family's cow at a

paddy field where they found her body.

AUGUST 27: Prak Kem, 45, was arrested by police after his mistress accused

him of raping a daughter in Chamkar Bei village, Municipality of Kep. Nop Neth, 43,

told police that Kem tortured her because she tried to stop him when he attempted

to rape his 8-year-old step-daughter.

AUGUST 28: Leng Krim, 17, was sentenced to six years in prison after provincial

court found him guilty of a rape he committed ten months ago in Samrong Leu village,

Kandal province. The presiding judge Teang Sotha said at the hearing that Krim was

arrested on September 12, 2006, after he raped a 6-year-old girl. Krim was ordered

to pay the girl 3 million riels for compensation.

AUGUST 28: Nay Srun, 39, a motorbike taxi driver, was found dead near his

bike in Svay Rolum village, Kandal province. Police said Srun had been chopped in

the head and stabbed in the stomach with a knife the previous night. Police suspected

someone killed him for attempting to steal his bike.

AUGUST 29: An 86-year-old monk, Yuon San, was found dead at 6:15am in front

of his room in Tuol Salla pagoda located in Doeum Traing village, Kandal province.

Although the cause of death was not known, a layman told a newspaper that San was

murdered with a stick the previous night. The layman said San had been injured on

the face and his right arm was broken.

AUGUST 29: Police are looking for Mao Ban, 38, who killed his wife Koy Saran,

34, at 6:30pm in Yeang Tauch village, Prey Veng province. Police said Ban chopped

Saran three times in the neck with an ax after that he chopped a pig to death then

escaped. A neighbor said Ban has probably had a mental problem for a long time but

he doesn't have any medical certificate.

AUGUST 29: Keo Muth, 65, was arrested after injuring Kong Pauch, 48, during

an argument at 6:30am in Treng Trayeung village, Kampong Speu province. Police said

Pauch was chopped in the shoulder with a heavy knife after he punched Muth on the

face. A neighbor told police the argument happened after Pauch's cows ate vegetables

at a farmland belonging to Muth.

AUGUST 30: Mech Meak, 41, was robbed of his motorbike while parking at a Tela

gasoline station where he was buying petrol at 4:45am in Veal Vong commune, Phnom

Penh. Meak, a motorbike taxi driver, complained to police that one of three robbers

beat him three times on the head with the handle of an AK-47 and shot once into the

air then escaped on his bike.

AUGUST 31: Him Dan, 48, was found hanging on a tree at 6:30am in Prey Rongeang

village, Kandal province. Police said Dan hanged himself with a rope after arguing

with his wife, Un Vanna the previous night. The wife said Dan tried to commit suicide

once before the death but he survived.

SEPTEMBER 1: A foreigner arrested two of five people and later handed them

to police after robbing him during a night time at O'Chhoeu Teal seaside in Mittapheap

district, Sihanoukville. Police said Kim Phoan, 18, Heng Bun, 17, and three other

accomplices robbed the foreigner while he was walking alone on the seaside. Police

said those people recently robbed another foreigner and escaped after stealing a

digital camera worth $120.

SEPTEMBER 2: Lightning killed one cowboy and injured another during an afternoon

rain storm in Prey Rongeang village, Kampong Speu province. Police said Soeun Phanith,

17, was struck and died instantly while he was looking after his family cow at a

rice field with Moeun Vichhay, 11, who was also struck but survived.

SEPTEMBER 3: Long Phirith, 45, was sent to a municipal court for questioning

after his 16-year-old stepdaughter accused him of raping her in Teuk Thlar commune,

on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. Police said Phirith was arrested after the girl and

her mother complained on September 1. The girl said so far Phirith raped her and

she is now two months pregnant.

SEPTEMBER 3: Khek Kimnan, 76, was taken by his family to a hospital for medical

treatment after being injured during an attempted robbery at 2:30pm in Tuol Sangke

commune, Phnom Penh. The family told police, an unknown man beat Kimnan on the back

of his head with a rock and stabbed him four times with a knife then escaped empty-handed

after Kimman shouted for help.
