One arrested in illegal fishing crackdown

A 24-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for fishing illegally in Pursat’s Bakan district on Tuesday. Police said that five suspects were fishing illegally and used electric tools to fish in an area being monitored by police. The four suspects who escaped threw their illegal fishing equipment into the water, and police have sent the sole captured suspect to court.

Husband saves wife from suicide attempt

A 29-YEAR-OLD woman attempted suicide in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district on Monday. Police said that on Monday she went to have her health examined at a hospital and was told she had a major health problem. When she returned home, she swallowed 20 pills of an unknown drug and her husband and neighbours rushed her to hospital in time to save her life.

Tuk-tuk bandit caught in Kampong Cham

POLICE in Kampong Cham’s Soung district arrested a 29-year-old man after he stole a tuk-tuk on Tuesday. Police said that the suspects stole the tuk-tuk in Phnom Penh and he tried to sell it in Kampong Cham. Police wondered why he had no ID card for the vehicle and questioned him. He admitted to stealing the tuk-tuk in Phnom Penh while the owner, his friend, was asleep.

Fisherman found dead in the water

A 26-YEAR-OLD man drowned in Kampong Chhnang’s Kampong Leang district on Monday. Police said that the victim was a fisherman, and a group of neighbours went looking for him when he didn’t return home on Monday night and found his body floating near his boat.

Reckless driver killed in traffic accident

A 44-YEAR-OLD man was killed in a car accident in Kampong Cham’s Soung district on Monday. Police said it was raining and the man was driving at excessive speeds when he lost control of his car and crashed into the back of a truck, killing him instantly. Police impounded both cars at the police station and are investigating further.

Necklace thief caught red handed by police

A 27-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for robbery in Battambang’s Sampov Loun district on Monday. Police said the victim was walking home, when the suspect grabbed the necklace off of her neck. The suspect attempted to escape, but police arrested him immediately. He admitted to the crime, saying he needed some money to buy drugs and police sent him to court.
