JANUARY 1: Phoeun Chun, 27, was arrested after raping a 15-year-old girl while

she was cutting grass for her family's cows at 9:30am in a rice field in Chrouy Chrey

village, Kandal province. The girl complained to police Chun raped her then threatened

to kill her if she told her parents about the rape.

JANUARY 1: Mey Saphat, 25, was attacked with a sword while dancing with other

people during a wedding party in Samaky village, Svay Rieng province. Saphat, now

in a provincial hospital, told police an unknown man chopped him twice, in the shoulder

and the arm, then ran away.

JANUARY 1: Police arrested Kuch Noeun, 16, and Yoeun Lapauch, 21, who were

accused of a murder three days earlier in Phnom Penh Thmey village, on the outskirts

of Phnom Penh. Police said the pair killed a man and put the body in a sack then

dropped him into a nearby lake. Police are looking for another accomplice, Kuch Sokna,

21, who escaped.

JANUARY 2: A gold vendor, Penh Bunthoeun, 34, was robbed while driving home

on a motorbike from Oudong market at 4:30pm in Chamkar Loung village, Kampong Speu

province. Bunthoeun told police two robbers on a motorbike blocked his path, knocked

him down by hitting him on the forehead with the butt of a K-59 handgun, then stole

his bag of gold valued at $40,000.

JANUARY 2: Kong Nary, 24, was found dead around 7am in Kaun Sat village, Kampot

province. Police said Nary was strangled and they suspected someone killed her to

keep her quiet after attempting to rape her.

JANUARY 3: One of two pickpockets, Keo San, 29, was shot in the leg and wounded

after stealing a money bag from a foreigner at 2pm in Boeng Prolit commune, Phnom

Penh. Police said San was arrested while hiding in a lake in Chong Koh village, Russey

Keo district, Phnom Penh. They are looking for an escaped accomplice, Nhok, 24.

JANUARY 3: Soeum Lim, 50, was shot and wounded in a revenge attack at 5:30am

as he and his wife transported materials on a motorbike to a primary school where

they are going to sell boiled rice to children in Khsach Pouy village, Battambang

province. Kong Saloeun, 45, told police a gunman appeared from a sidewalk, shot her

husband twice in the leg then ran away.

JANUARY 3: Noeuv Chamroeun, 38, was severely injured while watching television

at 8:40pm in Chhoeu Teal village, Kampong Thom province. A witness told police Chamroeun

ran out of his house bleeding and shouted for help then lost consciousness. Police

said Chamroeun was hit on the head with a rock, his neck had been cut and his chest

had been stabbed five times with a knife. He was taken to a district hospital, then

to a hospital in Phnom Penh.

JANUARY 3: Sborng Lai, 42, was found dead in a rice field in Memaing Tbong

village, Kampong Cham province. Police said Lai was killed with a heavy knife and

his head cut off. A witness told police three people were involved in the murder

but escaped. The witness said the three accused Lai of stealing a plastic pipe from

their water pump.

JANUARY 4: Sok Bunchhin, 20, was shot and severely wounded during a nighttime

argument in Stung Meanchey commune, Phnom Penh. A bystander told police Bunchhin

was shot once in the groin with a handgun while parking his bicycle to watch an argument

between two groups of gangsters. He had surgery at Preah Kossamak hospital.

JANUARY 4: Doung Vutha, 20, was attacked by a group of gangsters at 8:30pm

while going home from a restaurant where he had been drinking and eating with five

friends in Mittapheap district, Sihanoukville. A friend said one of six gangsters

chopped Vutha many times in the back with a cleaver then they all escaped on motorbikes.

Vutha was taken to Chamkar Chek hospital.

JANUARY 5: A 16-year-old girl complained to police that she was raped by kickboxer

Sam Bunsen, 21, at 12:30pm in her house in Serey Meanchey commune, Battambang province.

The girl said Bunsen escaped after raping her while she was watching television when

her parents were not at home.

JANUARY 6: Rin Cheng, 20, was stabbed with a bayonet while arguing with ten

gangsters during nighttime dancing in Andong Thmar commune, Sihanoukville. A bystander

told police the gangsters hit Cheng with sticks and stabbed him in the back, then

escaped. Cheng was taken to a municipal hospital then transferred to Preah Kossamak

hospital in Phnom Penh.

JANUARY 6: Police are looking for Khim Sawai, 24, who they say killed his

wife, Chea Rim, 20, at 4am in Chambak village, Battambang province. Police said Sawai

escaped after strangling Rim with a rope. A neighbor, who heard the couple arguing

the previous night, said Sawai was angry because Rim would not consent to have sex.

JANUARY 7: Chheang Mony, 33, was shot dead while sitting in his parked car

at midnight in Ta Phol village, Siem Reap province. Police said Mony was shot once

in the head and five times in the back with an AK-47. Police are looking for two

people who were in the car but absconded.

JANUARY 7: Canadian Kerry John Laverty, 48, was found dead at 8:30am in his

room in the riverside Paragon Hotel in Psar Kandal Commune, Phnom Penh. Police said

some medicine was found in his room. The body was taken to Calmette Hospital for

autopsy.

JANUARY 8: Sin Oun, 24, was found hanging dead at 3pm in her house in Tuol

Sangkae commune, Phnom Penh. Police said Oun hanged herself with a rope because she

was not happy as her family were forcing her to marry within a week.
