HEARTBROKEN GIRL JUMPS INTO RIVER

Chear Srey Phea, 22, a waitress at a Phnom Penh restaurant, attempted to commit suicide by jumping off a motorbike and hurling herself off the Japanese bridge at 2:30pm Monday. Chear Srey Phea said that she tried to commit suicide because her boyfriend, Voeun, a car repairman, left her for another girl about a month ago. Voeun denied that he broke up with Chear Srey Phea, saying that he loved her and that she tried to kill herself because he refused to lend her US$200, as she borrowed money from him many times and never paid him back. Chear Srey Phea was pulled from the river by police who rented a boat to rescue her.
