Man who chose moto over mate arrested

Money proved more important than friendship to a man who was arrested on Wednesday for making off with his friend’s motorcycle in the capital’s Daun Penh district. Police said the man, 24, went for a ride with his friend on his motorcycle last week. On the ride back, the suspect asked his friend to buy him a phone card. When he got off, the suspect rode off with the bike. The victim spotted the thief on Wednesday, caught him and took him to police. He said he had pawned the motorcycle. Kampuchea Thmey

Burglar caught in the act as accomplices flee

One of three men breaking into a house in the capital’s Chamkarmon district on Wednesday was caught in the act. The home owner called police when she noticed the men breaking in. Police arrested one suspect, but the other two escaped. The suspect said he and his accomplices had been trying to steal goods to sell, and he gave their names to police. Nokorwat

Police kick over moto in pursuit of thieves

Police in the capital’s Prampi Makara district arrested two men for theft on Monday. Police said the two suspects snatched a woman’s necklace and ran away. Police on patrol pursued them and kicked their motorcycle over, catching one and arresting another later that night. An eyewitness said three other men were involved. Nokorwat  

Cash for detainee’s release ‘gambled away’

A 38-year-old Vietnamese man was arrested on Tuesday in Svay Rieng province’s Bavet town for defrauding another Vietnamese national of 16 million dong (US$765) last year. Police said the victim, 36, filed a complaint in December. His younger brother had been arrested, and the suspect promised to get the brother out of detention if the victim gave him the money, promising to return it if he was unsuccessful. The suspect disappeared, until the victim spotted him drinking outside a casino. The suspect told police he had gambled away the money. Nokorwat

Wedding guest shot as men steal moto

Police are looking for a trio who robbed two men of a motorcycle in Pursat province’s Phnom Kravanh district on Tuesday. Police said the two victims, both 25, were returning from a wedding when three men with a rifle blocked their way and demanded their motorcycle. When the two men did not stop, one of the suspects shot the motorcycle driver twice, wounding him seriously in the shoulder. The two men ran and the suspects left with the motorcycle.
