JULY 5: Em Chea, 51, and her granddaughter, Chhum Theara, 14, were fatally

gunned down at 8 pm in Trapaing Traok village, Thpang district, Kampong Speu. Police

said Chea was shot twice and Theara was shot six times with an AK-47 by an unknown

man who then escaped. Provincial Criminal Police Chief Svay Yoeun said the possible

target was Ngin Lim, Chea's husband, who had been accused of sorcery but who was

not there at the time.

JULY 5: A 15-year-old teenage girl, Yurn Eang, was axed to death in a robbery

at 7:10 am while plowing a rice field in Ta Preach village, San Touk district, Kampong

Thom. Police said the victim was struck eight times and had her throat cut by her

cousin, Pha Phan, 22. Phan, who stole one of her two cows, escaped into a nearby

forest, but was later arrested.

JULY 6: Bun Chetra, 21, a National Institute of Management student, was

the victim of an attempted robbery while riding down 353 Street in Boeng Kak 1 precinct,

Toul Kork district, Phnom Penh. Police said two robbers on a motorcycle threatened

Chetra with a handgun and demanded his motorbike. A passing police patrol shot dead

one robber while the other fled.

JULY 6: A 15-year-old girl was raped at midnight in Kampheng Reach village,

Ba Phnom district, Prey Veng. Police said the rapist, Mauk Soth, 43, was the victim's

natural father and had also raped his two other daughters, 18 and 20. Soth, who had

threatened to kill his daughters if they told their mother about the rapes, was arrested

after his wife complained to authorities.

JULY 7: Sim Chandara, a municipal criminal police, was shot and severely

wounded in a night-time robbery in Boeng Keng Kang 2 precinct, Chamcarmon, Phnom

Penh. Police said the victim was hit twice in the stomach and the right thigh with

a K-54 handgun after he tried to exchange fire with six robbers who attempted to

steal a motorbike from a passenger. One of the robbers was shot once in the waist

and escaped with his accomplices on three motorbikes.

JULY 8: Chin Sokha, 23, was severely injured in a robbery attempt a 8:30

am while riding a motorbike with her friend on National Road 3 in Toul Kay village,

Dangkor district, on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. Police said the victim crashed

into a car and flipped over while trying to chase a thief who had snatched her five

chi gold necklace.

JULY 8: Yem Sophea, 19, was knifed and severely injured in a robbery while

riding a motorbike at 2:30 am on Preah Monivong Blvd in front of Wat Koh pagoda,

Phnom Penh. Police said the victim, a student from Phnom Penh University, was chopped

in the head and his arms by Thou Khloeng, 19, and Sim Phan, 17, who were later arrested

after they attempted to steal the bike.

JULY 8: Karl Vaughan Howells, 27, a British national, died after being

sent to Calmette hospital after he had accident in a toilet of the Same Same Guest-House

in Srah Chak commune, Phnom Penh. Police said Howells, who was an English teacher

from ELT, died from massive head injuries after he had been drinking beer with a

friend.

JULY 8: Chuon Soham, 20, was knifed and severely injured while returning

from a wedding dance in Sam Panleu village, Saang district, Kandal. Police said Soham

was stabbed once in the chest by five gangsters in a revenge attack related to Soham

stepping on the feet of an accomplice earlier in the evening. Two of five assailants,

Narth Nak, 20, and Phan Khoeun, 24, were later arrested.

JULY 9: Soam Mao, 22, was knifed to death in a family quarrel at 1 pm in

Prek Krauch village, Ek Phnom district, Battambang. Police said the victim was stabbed

twice in the back and throat by her husband, Heng Sarin, who was angry after she

refused to give $10 to him by saying that "If you want money you must pass my

body first". Sarin was arrested after he tried to kill himself.

JULY 9: A 44-year-old woman was found dead at her house in Boeng Basak

village, in the provincial capital of Kampong Cham. Police said the woman, who was

married with five children, possibly killed herself with insecticide. A family crisis

was suspected as her husband had become crazed by alcohol.

JULY 10: Krang Srey Poeu, 23, was knocked down in a family quarrel at 4:30

am in Sam Rong village, Kampong Chhnang. Police said the victim was hit with a steel

bar and had her face destroyed by her husband, Kuok Thol, 27, who then hanged himself

due to jealousy. Srey Poeu, who has three children, was sent to the provincial hospital

for treatment, but is not expected to recover from massive head injuries.

JULY 10: Prach Choy, 40, was gunned down with a K-54 handgun while drinking

wine at night in Chroy Dang village, Kien Svay district, Kandal. Police said the

victim, a fish vendor from Phnom Penh, was shot in the chest and died instantly while

visiting his brother's house. Ren Chandy, 29, a military policeman who was arrested

in connection with the shooting, attributed the killing to a case of mistaken identity.

JULY 14: Kieng Huot, 40, a gold seller, was shot and severely wounded in

a robbery while riding with his wife at 5:15 pm in Olympic commune, Phnom Penh. Police

said the victim was shot twice in the stomach and once in the left arm with a K-54

handgun by two unknown men who then escaped on a motorcycle. Revenge is the suspected

motive because his jewelry was not stolen.
