January 4: The body of a 2-year-old boy was found floating in the Bassac
river at 10:00 am in Mitapheap village, Russei Keo district. The body was kept in
a coffin and closed with decoration inside. The reason is not known, however, police
said Cambodian people always float their child if they cannot care for the first
baby.
January 4: Lim Rong, 38, and daughter Kim Sokhom, 16, were shot and seriously
wounded at 7:00 pm in Ta Khmau town, Kandal. Police said the victims were shot with
an M-16 by Yan Vichit who tried to woo the daughter two years ago, but his advances
were refused by her mother who demanded $1,000 for a wedding ceremony but he could
offer $700 only. The assailant also shot himself and died later.
January 5: Kheng Khoeun, 34, a moto-taxi driver, was found dead at early
morning in Boeng Kak 1 precinct, Toul Kok district, Phnom Penh. After inspection,
police said the victim had massive head injuries. Police said the victim was killed
by robbers who took his motorbike.
January 5: Koeu Yeat, 56, was robbed at midnight while opening a door to
slaughter a cow in Ta Ngoun village, Dongkor district. Police said the victim who
is a slaughter-house owner had a K-59 handgun aimed at him by four robbers who took
two motorbikes, two damleung of gold and one million riel.
January 5: Chhong Chieu, 25, was arrested at 4:00 am after raping a10-year-old
girl in Koh Russei village, Kampong Leng district, Kampong Chhnang. Police said the
rapist, who is a vagrant from Kampong Thom province, asked to stay in the victim's
house for three days to look for a job, and raped the girl when her parents were
downstairs.
January 6: A 20-year-old unidentified girl died instantly in an accident
at 9:30 am on Veng Sreng road in Chom Chao commune outskirt. Police said the victim
who was wearing a nice dress to attend a wedding ceremony, was hit from behind and
her head was broken while she was on a moto-taxi and trying to overtake a truck.
January 6: Khim Sochea, 13, died instantly in an accident at 7:30 pm while
he was begging on National Road 1 in Niraut commune, Mean Chey district, outside
the city. Police said the victim who is a boy with mental problems from Kean Svay
district, Kandal province, was hit by a Kamas truck, and his head was broken.
January 6: Routh Hem, 32, a moto-taxi driver, was robbed at 10:00 am while
parking to collect money from a traveler in Psah Doeum Thkau precinct, Chamcarmon.
Police said the victim who came from Takeo province was shot once in his stomach
and seriously wounded by his passenger above. The victim was sent to Calmette hospital.
January 6: Nhek Samol, 40, was shot dead with an AK-47 at 8:00 pm while
watching television with his wife and children at his house in Prambei Mom village,
Thpang district, Kampong Speu. Police said the victim who is an engineering soldier
was shot three times and died instantly. The motivation for the killing is not known.
January 7: Pen Than, 35, was arrested for a robbery he is accused of committing
two months ago in Prey Kansa village, Prey Veng province. Police said the capture
came after a victim Yong Phea, 28, complained to the provincial court because this
offender used a long gun to point at him and took his five chi necklace.
January 8: Three people were arrested at 4:30 am after stealing a Toyota
Corolla car in Boeng Kak 1 precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said the capture came after
the car's owner Tauch Saroeun, 40, an official from Cambodian Royal Armed Forces
complained to an authorized person. The robbers are Prang Rithy, 18, Thun Vuth, 20,
and Dary Routana, 18.
January 8: Tep Kosal, 22, was arrested for a murder he is accused of committing
four months ago in Siem Reap. Police said the criminal, who is a musician from Thma
Kool village, Battambang province, escaped to Pailin city after he killed a 19-year-old
musician Keat Pisey who tried to woo his girlfriend while playing music there.
January 9: Lim Bunthel, 42, was robbed at night while watching TV at her
house in Boeng Trabak commune, Phnom Penh. Police said that one unidentified Vietnamese
robber who had a K-59 handgun was chopped to death while fighting with a nephew of
the house owner, and another was captured and beaten to death.
January 9: Kim Bunny, 36, a moto-taxi driver, was shot and seriously wounded
at 5:30 am while carrying a traveler in Trapaing Chhouk village, Russei Keo district.
Police said the victim was shot by two robbers who are accomplices of the traveler.
The robbers escaped empty-handed when authorized persons came to help.
January 9: Chhim Saren, 40, died instantly in an accident at 6:45 pm while
he was riding a motorbike on Russian Federation Blvd in Ta Ngoun village, Dongkor
district, outside the city. Police said the victim was hit by a water truck driven
by 29-year-old Srey Bun who escaped safely by abandoning the truck on the spot.
January 10: Sok Chlaugn, 20, was arrested after he raped a woman in Kandal
Krom village, Kean Svay district, Kandal. Police said the capture came after the
victim's family complained to local authorities. The victim who is a widow with one
child was raped at 10:00 pm while she was urinating in a banana field nearby the
rapist's house.
January 10: Poeu Mol, 33, was chopped to death at 10:00 pm in a quarrel
with his wife in Kraing Ta Ek village, Kampong Tralach district, Kampong Chhnang.
Police said the victim who was married with four children was chopped 3 times by
his father-in-law Chea Khon, 63, and brother-in-law Khut Khom, 26. The assailants
were arrested after the incident.
January 11: A 30-year-old unidentified man was chopped and seriously injured
at 5:00 am in Dey Ith village, Kean Svay district, Kandal. The man was captured by
villagers while stealing chicken. The thief was sent to district hospital after the
incident but he was expected to die later due to his massive head injuries.
January 11: Lang Tap, 25, was captured at 6:00 am after robbing a moto-taxi
and hiding for a full night in a lake located in Saang district, Kandal. Police said
the robber who came from Kampot province but had permanent residence in Phnom Penh
was arrested while four others who had two handguns escaped safely empty-handed.
January 11: Ban Kruy, 30, and her son, 12 years old, were found dead at
her house in Sala Kansoam village, Siem Reap. Police said the victims were killed
three days ago when her husband came to Phnom Penh to receive a medical certificate.
Police said the murder was suspected by two people who rented her house and escaped
after the killing.
January 12: Thou, 20, was shot dead at midnight by police after robbing
a motorbike in Psah Doeum Thkau precinct, Toul Kok district. Police said the victim
Heap Buntha, 20, a moto-taxi driver, was beaten on his head from behind and lost
consciousness while carrying the robber on street 230. Another two robbers escaped
empty-handed.
January 12: Pheng Un, 45, was shot and seriously wounded at night by They
Sokeat who tried to woo his daughter but his advances were refused because he had
AIDS. Police said the victim who is a deputy inspector of Kampong Svay district,
Kampot province was shot once in his head with an AK-47 and died later in hospital.
The assailant killed himself by hand grenade after the incident.
January 12: A 30-year-old unidentified man was found dead at 3:30 pm about
100 meters away from National Road 4 in Mondul Taney precinct, Prey Nup district,
Sihanoukville. After inspection, police said the victim maybe died one week ago.
His head had massive injuries and his neck was tied. The reason is not known.
January 12: Nhem Sarin, 50, a moto-taxi driver, was shot with a K-59 handgun
and seriously wounded at 7:30 pm while parking to pick up a traveler on street 202
in Psah Depot 1 precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said the victim came from Prey Veng
province was shot once in the chest by two robbers who took his motorbike and escaped
safely.
January 13: Nout Khon, 33, was captured and beaten to death at 4:30 am
while stealing a motorbike in Chomroeun Phal village, Mean Chey district. Police
said the offender who was married with three children came from Tram Kak district,
Takeo, and had spent three months in T3 prison when he tried to steal a motorbike
in 1996.
January 13: A 28-year-old woman, Le Bich Phoeung, was found dead by hanging
at midnight in a guest house located in Toul Sangke village, Russei Keo district,
Phnom Penh. The reason is not known. Police said the victim who is a Vietnamese just
came to Cambodia one month ago in order to do a deal with a garment factory.
January 13: Tid Mao, 65, a farmer, was found dead floating in the river
at noon in Koh Prak village, Kean Svay district, Kandal. The reason is not known,
however, police said the victim drowned while taking a bath after drinking wine.
January 13: At least 15 people capsized in a boat in the river at 6:30
pm while returning from making prahok in Trabe village, Ponhea Leu district, Kandal.
Police said that perhaps six people were missing and ten others were rescued, however,
authorities are continuing to search for the bodies which are still missing.
January 14: Mey Vibol, 35, died instantly in an accident at 6:45 am in
Prek Takong village, Mean Chey district, outside the city. Police said the victim
who just got married 3 months ago was hit by a Remoke while riding a motorbike on
National Road 2.
January 14: Mok Monirouth, 30, was robbed of his motorbike at night while
riding with his girlfriend on Nehru Blvd in Psah Depot 2 precinct, Phnom Penh. Police
said the victim who is a criminal police official from the Ministry of Interior was
shot once in his mouth and seriously wounded by five unidentified robbers in a Camry
car.
