June 9: The body of an 18-year-old man, Ron Ny, was found in a lake in
Wat Ong village, Kandal Steung district, Kandal province. Police said the victim
was beaten to death by Nat Vith, who caught Ny trying to steal his cow and sell it
for 800,000 riel. The criminal was not arrested.
June 9: Nuon Heng, 62, was chopped and seriously injured at 8:00 pm following
a drinking session with friends in Psah Thmey 2 precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said
the victim, a cyclo driver, was hit twice on his head with an ax by a 55-year-old
man, Chim Tha, who became angry that he was being criticized and belittled. The assailant
escaped after the incident.
June 10: Four people were arrested after they robbed the Chinese Association
in Ta Kem village, Ang Snoul district, Kandal. Police said the arrests were made
after Kong Lak, 67, a security guard for the association, complained to authorities
that he was beaten on his head with a long stick and injured by robbers, Tha Vanna,
20, Ek Oeun, 20, Ek Im, 19, and Leng Sokha, 21.
June 10: A 52-year-old moto-taxi driver, Nuon Sophal, was sent to Preah
Kossamak hospital immediately after he suddenly lost consciousness at 4:30 pm on
Russian Federation Blvd in Chom Chao commune, outskirts. A doctor said the victim,
who came from Arey Ksat village, Kandal province, had been drugged with sleeping
tablets by two women who then stole his motorbike.
June 10: The body of a 40-year-old man, Chan Ny, was found in a canal in
Tomnop Rolak precinct, Mitapheap district, Sihanoukville. Police said the victim,
a moto-taxi driver, was hit on his head with a big rock by unidentified robbers who
stole his motorbike.
June 11: Chheng Rim, 19, and Sok Khim, 17, were arrested for a robbery
committed two weeks ago in Psah Kandal 2 precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said a 38-year-old
man, Seng Sopheap, had been threatened with a plastic handgun and robbed of a diamond
and platinum necklace and cash.
June 11: One woman died and five others were seriously injured in a motor
vehicle accident at 9:30 am on National Road 4 in Kook Kanhchak village, Kompong
Sella district, Sihanoukville. Police said the victims were on a truck loaded with
durian fruit which crashed after blowing a tire.
June 11: A 46-year-old woman, Eng Yuleng, was found dead in Prek Andaung
village, Koh Thom district, Kandal. After inspection, police said the victim had
killed herself with insecticide because she was angry following a quarrel with her
husband earlier in the evening.
June 11: Sia Ung, 59, died instantly after falling off the back of a motorcycle
and being struck by a following car at 4:00 pm on Monireth Street in Steung Meanchey
village, Mean Chey district, Phnom Penh. Police said the driver of the car escaped
safely after the incident.
June 11: Y Chanthy, 35, was shot dead at 7:50 pm in a land dispute in Ta
Loeut village, Prey Veng. Police said the victim was shot with an AK-47 by Ou Saphon,
a provincial police official. Saphon had become angry after Chanthy asked him to
pay one million riel for mental damage for threatening to kill him. Saphon said Chanthy
could get the money in his next life, then killed him. Chanthy's niece, Koy Le Ieng,
22, was also shot dead. The criminal policeman Saphon was not arrested.
June 12: A 40-year-old woman, Bun Tong, died instantly at 1:30 pm on Kampuchea
Krom Blvd, Phnom Penh, after falling off a moto during a robbery attempt. Police
said two men tried to snatch the victim's gold necklace, causing her fall from the
motor cycle. She died of massive head injuries.
The thieves escaped safely after the incident.
June 12: A Phnom Penh criminal officer, Phat Phalla, 35, was shot and injured
at 8:10 pm while exchanging shots with five robbers on Street 67 in Psah Thmei 2
precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said Phalla had been ordered to stop by the robbers,
who beat him and stole his motorbike. He then shot at the robbers as they escaped.
June 12: Khem Sophoan, 42, was robbed of his motorbike at 3:00 am while
carrying two passengers in Wat Phnom precinct, Daun Penh district, Phnom Penh. Police
said the victim, a moto-taxi driver from Kandal province, was hit on his head with
a handgun by his passengers when he refused to hand over his motorbike.
June 12: Bun Thy, 20, a security-guard from Sompoeu Meas restaurant, was
shot dead at midnight while looking for his wife in a brothel in Mitapheap commune,
Sihanoukville. Police said the victim, who was married with one child, was shot by
Doeu, 18. Thy was unhappy that Doeu had developed a relationship with his wife. Doeu
escaped after the incident.
June 13: A 52-year-old man, Kia Sovan, was found floating in a lake in
front of his house in Prey Chisak village, Dongkor district. Sovan's wife told police
her husband drowned after coming home from a drinking session with friends.
June 13: Mao Thear, 45, a recycler, was chopped and seriously injured in
a quarrel at 7:30 pm in Wat Phnom precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said the victim was
hit with a long knife by his friend Sey Sareth, 42, who became angry because Thear
knocked him down while he was fighting with his wife. The victim was sent to Calmette
hospital. The assailant was arrested.
June 13: Kong Kan, 42, was stabbed to death at 8:30 pm in a family quarrel
Treuy Troeng village, Saang district, Kandal. Police said the victim was stabbed
by his 31-year-old nephew, Tom Koy, who became angry when his family were criticized
and belittled. The assailant escaped after the incident.
June 13: Thea Chhon, 29, was robbed of his motorbike at 8:00 pm while carrying
two passengers about 200 meters from Srah Sour hotel in Poipet commune, Banteay Meanchey.
Police said the victim, a moto-taxi driver, was ordered to stop by two accomplices
of the passengers. Soam Chhay, 34, one of four robbers, was arrested, and nearly
beaten to death.
June 14: Tep Samnang, 25, a pickpocket, was beaten and seriously injured
at 11:10 am after stealing a handphone from a telephone shop on Kampuchea Krom Street
in Phnom Penh. Police said the pickpocket, from Phoum Taung, Kampong Cham province,
was arrested and hit with rocks and sticks by the shop's owner and neighbors after
he picked up the phone and tried to run away.
June 14: Khuon Sokhom, 48, was chopped and seriously injured at 9:15pm
while taking a bath at his house in Tonle Bassac commune, Chamkarmon district, Phnom
Penh. Police said the victim, who is a village chief, was hit three times with a
big knife by In Narin, 20. The assailant escaped after the incident.
June 14: Chean Ung, 40, a construction worker, was chopped and injured
at 6:30 pm while drinking wine with his friends in Prek Purleu village, Srey Santhor
district, Kampong Cham. Police said the victim was cut once on his right shoulder
with a big knife by Va Kimhong, 52, who became angry after he was knocked down by
the victim.
June 15: A 55-year-old taxi driver, Pao Srey, was robbed at 2:45 am while
carrying two passengers on Street 67 in Wat Phnom precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said
the victim was threatened with a K-59 handgun by the passengers who attempted to
steal his motorbike. The robbers, Chan Thirat, 19, and Van Vuthy, 29, were arrested
immediately.
June 16: Nay Saroeun, 35, a policeman, was shot and seriously wounded at
midnight while asleep at a taxi control office in downtown Kampong Chhnang. Police
said the victim was shot once in his chest by an unidentified person who escaped
on a motorbike after the incident. The victim was sent to the provincial hospital
immediately. The reason for the attack is unknown.
June 16: Ly Leuy, 50, and his son Luey Ry, 18, were struck and killed instantly
by lightning at 5:00 pm during a thunder storm in Kum Rou village, Kra Lanh district,
Siem Reap.
June 17: Thong Seung, 41, a merchandise seller, was shot dead at night
when he opened his door to sell wine to a customer at his house in Salong village,
O'Raingov district, Kampong Cham. Police said the victim was shot by the customer,
who stole seven chi of gold and 250,000 riel. The robber escaped safely after the
incident.
June 18: The PDC garment factory in Poprak village, Dongkor district outskirts,
was robbed at midnight by 10 people who stole 18 sewing machines costing around $4,000
to $6,000 each. The thieves escaped safely.
June 19: A 62-year-old gold seller, Khoal Phan, was robbed at noon in O'Russei
1 precinct, 7 January district, Phnom Penh. An official for Phnom Penh Criminal Police
Sreng Bunnaret said the victim was threatened by six people on three motorbikes,
one of them armed with a handgun. The robbers escaped safely with 30 damleung of
gold and 20 damleung of platinum.
