TRAIN SMASHES INTO HYUNDAI VAN

A train ran into a Hyundai van as it neared a railway crossing in Phnom Penh's Dangkor district on Sunday. The Hyandai van was trying to cross the railway tracks while the train was about 300 meters away. Unfortunately, the engine of the van failed when it was right on the rails and could not go ahead. So, the train crashed into the van at full strength, turning the van over. However, the driver of the van was only slightly injured.

B'BANG MAN POURS PETROL ON FIANCÉE

Tann Nylong, 57, was arrested for pouring petrol on his fiancee while she was doing the washing up in Baek Chan Thmey village, in Battambang's Prek Preah Sdach commune on Saturday. The suspect, who was arrested by the police the next day in Kdol Daun Teav commune, is a Cambodian who lives in the United States. The victim was Yan Kim Han, 21. According the victim's mother, the incident happened because the suspect was angry with her for breaking off her daughter's engagement to him.

ROBBER ARRESTED FOR NECKLACE THEFT

A man was arrested for trying to rob Ang Somavatey, 21, in Rumchek 4 village, Ratanak commune, Battambang province on Saturday morning.

Seth Sithien, 20, snatched a necklace from the victim while she was riding a bike to school along National Road 5. The necklace was taken by Seth Sithien's friend, who escaped.

KARAOKE GIRL DETERS WOULD-BE RAPIST

A man tried to rape a karaoke girl in a private room of Hawaii Karaoke but was not successful because the girl resisted. She filed a complaint to the Chamkarmon police, but suspect Lim Phal escaped arrest. The police want her to solve the problem outside the courts.

KANDAL STUDENT ATTACKS CLASSMATE

Thoeun Thorn, 19, from Ampil village, in Kandal province's Kraing Yov commune, was arrested Saturday after he had made trouble in a school and wounded Pek Phearith, 18, a fellow student. At first a group of students, including the victim, were in the school compound. The suspect called the victim to come out to fight with him, and then took a stick and hit the victim on his arm. According to police, Thoeun Thorn makes trouble like this very often, but this time it is more serious.
