May 11: Two policemen and one traveler were shot and seriously wounded

at 8:15 pm while exchanging fire in a robbery in Boeng Keng Kang 2 precinct, Phnom

Penh. The victims, Yim Socheath and Ros Sine, policemen from 7 January district,

and Sok Thy, 35, a traveler, were shot from behind by pickpockets whom the policemen

were trying to arrest after the pickpockets tried to steal the traveler's necklace.

May 11: Lao Lihou, 17, was robbed of her motorbike at 7:45 pm while parked

in front of her house waiting for the door to open, in Street 271 in Psah Doeum Thkau

commune, Phnom Penh. Police said the victim was grabbed around her neck by three

robbers on a motorbike who threatened to kill her. Two robbers were arrested immediately.

May 11: Yon Sokha, 21, was killed by lightning during an afternoon thunderstorm

in Prosoeu village, Chamkar Leu district, Kampong Cham. Police said the victim, a

farmer, was struck and died instantly while returning from a rice field. Thu Kry,

37, from Sarai village, was also struck and lost consciousness.

May 11: Mang Yung Minh, 48, was chopped to death in a family quarrel at

6:30 am in O'Trakoun village, Choeung Prey district, Kampong Cham. Police said the

victim, a Vietnamese, was hit on his neck with an ax by his wife, Som Layheng, 43,

who became angry when she was accused of stealing 50,000 riel. Layheang was arrested.

May 12: A 46-year-old woman, Pel Chanthan, was found dead in her house

at 10:30 pm in Veal Vong commune, Phnom Penh. Police said the victim, a worker at

the Cambodian-American Tobacco company, was tied by her hands and feet, and chopped

on her head with a big knife by unidentified robbers who stole her jewelry.

May 12: Chea Oeun, 51, was chopped and seriously injured at night in Kbal

Kanlong village, Kampong Chhnang. Police said the victim was hit several times on

her head with a big knife by her niece Khim, 24, who became angry after her husband

was criticized as a drunkard. The victim was not expected to live.

May 13: Four people were sent to Preah Sihanouk hospital after they were

seriously injured in a grenade attack at a checkpoint at noon on Russian Federation

Blvd in Phnom Penh. Police said Long Kuch, 29, a former soldier, who was also seriously

injured at the time, threw two grenades and tried to escape after a policeman found

the grenades in his pocket.

May 13: A suspected robber, San Song, 32, shot himself dead with an AK-47

at 3:30 pm in a rice field in Toul Thmey village, Tbaung Khmum district, Kampong

Cham. Police said the man, who was accused of stealing a villager's property three

months ago, shot himself when the district authorities tried to arrest him.

May 14: The body of Soeung Soeun, was found in a lake in Prek Ron village,

Saang district, Kandal. Police said the victim was killed with a big knife by his

friend Oeun, who became angry when Soeun borrowed his bike for a while, then took

off with it for a month. Oeun, a farmer, was arrested.

May 14: The body of a 31-year-old woman, Srun Chrep, was found in a cane-field

in Anlong Tasek Leu village, Saang district, Kandal province. After inspection, police

said the victim, a virgin girl, was chopped several times on her head and her neck

with a big knife after being raped. The criminal was not known.

May 15: Khut Poeu, 20, was chopped and seriously injured in a dancing quarrel

at night in Prey Tbeng village, Kandal province. Police said the victim was hit on

his head with an ax by Dor Chroeun, 30, who became angry as he was stepped on his

foot while dancing. The victim died after being sent to hospital. Chroeun was arrested.

May 15: Chhai Haksong, 20, and Nut Phearin, 20, were arrested in Phnom

Penh for a robbery committed one month ago in Siem Reap province. Police said the

capture came after Prum Sophal, 20, complained to the provincial court after he was

robbed of his motorbike.

May 15: A 19-year-old orphan boy, Dith Sophal, was killed by lightning

along with his dog during a thunderstorm at 4:00 pm in Phoum Phae, Kampong Chhnang.

Police said the victim was struck and died instantly while he was out collecting

mango fruit.

May 16: Khat Chieu, 42, a moto-taxi driver, was chopped to death at midnight

while carrying a traveler on street 155 in Toul Tompoung 1 precinct, Phnom Penh.

Police said the victim, who came from Russei Tateung village, Svay Reang province,

was hit twice on his head and temple with an ax by his passenger, who stole his bike.

May 16: A Vietnamese, Nguyen Taing Hai, 22, was found dead at 9:30 am in

his house in Prek Tanou village, Mean Chey district, Phnom Penh. The reason was not

known, however, police said the victim died four days earlier, possibly from using

a narcotic drug.

May 16: Hin Nhan, 20, died instantly in an accident at 6:45 pm while riding

a motorbike on Russian Federation Blvd in Kakab village, Dongkor district, outskirts.

Police said the victim was hit from the front by a car while taking over another

bike driven by a 21-year-old man, Noy Kosal, who was seriously injured at the time.

May 17: Two suspected robbers, Vuthy and Phe Sar, were arrested at 10:30

am while riding a motorbike on Preah Sisowath Blvd in front of the Royal Palace in

Phnom Penh. Police said the capture came after a victim, Yin Theary, 20, a telephone

shop owner, complained to the court after she was robbed of her two telephones recently.

May 17: A 93-year-old woman, Ou Thaing, was found murdered at 9:10 am in

her house in Pur Leu village, Saang district, Kandal. Police said the victim was

strangled to death while her daughter was at the market buying food. The criminal

escaped with a two-chi gold ring, a generator and a water pump.

May 18: Khat Khym, 33, suffered acid burns on his head and face at 11:30

am in Steung Chroeu village, Ta Khmau district, Kandal. Police said the victim, a

former soldier, had his face destroyed by his wife, Lek Sun, 31, a vegetable seller,

who was angry with her husband because he was always drunk and often beat her.

May 18: A former high-ranking Khmer Rouge official, Ke Pok, was sent to

the provincial hospital of Siem Reap after he was seriously injured in an accident

at 7:30 am in the town. The Cambodia Bulletin reported that the victim was hit by

a taxi while he was crossing an intersection on a motorbike, bringing money for a

pagoda building in Anlong Veng.

May 19: Nia Phalkun, 19, was beaten and seriously injured at 7:10 pm while

riding a motorbike on street 307 in Boeng Kak 2 precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said

the victim, a student from the National Institute for Management, was ordered to

stop then hit on his head with a K-59 handgun by four people who stole his bike.

May 19: Nhoung Sinto, 52, a moto-taxi driver, was robbed at midnight while

carrying two passengers on Street 62 in Depot 1 precinct, Toul Kok district, Phnom

Penh. Police said the victim was hit on his head with a hammer and rendered unconscious

by his passengers, who escaped with his motorbike.

May 20: Le Sophanith, 26, was sent to Preah Kosamak hospital after he set

himself on fire at midnight in his house on National Road 6 A in Chroy Changwa precinct,

Phnom Penh. Police said the victim, a car repairer from Kampong Thom province, tried

to kill himself as he was jealous of his wife, Phem Sopha, 22, who was in love with

another man.

May 21: Heang Makara, 18, died of severe burns in Preah Kosamak hospital

after his friend poured petrol on him and set him on fire then stole his bike as

he lay sleeping at 2:30 am in the Olympic stadium. Police said the victim, a student

from Bak Touk high school, and his friend had gone to the stadium after drinking

beer at Chhouk Tep restaurant.

May 21: A 28-year-old woman, Loch Sokhim, was sent to Preah Kosamak hospital

with severe burns to her body at 3:00 pm in Psah Samaki village, Russei Keo district,

Phnom Penh. Police said the victim, a cake maker, had caught fire while starting

a lighter to cook rice after she had mistakenly poured petrol into a fire place,

believing it was kerosene.

May 21: Chhieu Narouth, 36, a moto-taxi driver, was robbed at 3:45 am while

carrying two travelers on Monivong Blvd in Psah Doeum Thkau precinct, Phnom Penh.

Police said the victim was beaten and injured by the passengers. Sem Sophal, 20,

a furniture maker from Prey Veng, was arrested by Flying Tiger police. One robber,

Kang Thy, 21, escaped.

May 21: A Chinese man, Chen Ychu, 54, was sent to Preah Sihanouk hospital

immediately after he was seriously injured at noon while fixing an electrical wire

in a K4 garment factory in Teuk Thla commune, Russei Keo district, Phnom Penh. Police

said the victim, who is an electrician, suffered an electric shock, fell, and died

later of severe head injuries.

May 21: Phook Ra, 19, was arrested after raping an 11-year-old girl while

looking for a cow near a riverside in Piem Raing village, Leuk Dek district, Kandal.

Police said the capture came after the victim's family complained to authorities

while the rapist was trying to escape.
