Neighbour drives wedge – er, hoe – into marriage

A feuding couple in Battambang town last Tuesday learned that good fences make good neighbours – or would, if they had one. When the contentious couple disregarded a neighbour’s demands to keep it down, the 28-year-old strolled over and attacked the husband, 27, with a hoe. The neighbour landed blows to his victim’s head and chest, then fled. The husband was hospitalised, and the neighbour was arrested on Monday. Kampuchea Thmey

Sleepy security guard gets rude awakening

“Who's been sleeping in my bed?” is a question a security guard may never ask again after being beaten by a fuming father in a Phnom Penh restaurant on Monday. A seven-year-old boy had crept off to a security guard’s nearby bed and drifted off. The guard, also sleepy, woke the boy and evicted him. In tears, the boy went to his father, who responded by beating the guard with a plastic chair, with a little help from his friends who provided fists and feet. The five men were arrested. The man had called his girlfriend only to find out – by way of another man answering her phone – that he was no longer in the picture. The broken-hearted man cursed his rival, who rounded up four friends and paid him a visit. The five men stabbed and threw stones at the man and his friend, critically injuring them, before fleeing. Thieves get steaming cup of justice after 6 months

Six months at large ended with a coffee run on Monday when two fugitives accused of stealing a moto were arrested in Oddar Meanchey’s Anlong Veng district. According to police, the two suspects, aged 21 and 27, injured a man in Phnom Penh when they stole his motorbike in September and rode off into the sunset. Their quest for caffeine proved their undoing as police pounced on them as they sipped coffee in a restaurant. They confessed and have been sent to court. Kampuchea Thmey
