FEBRUARY 13: Phon Phan, 30, was axed and severely injured at 11:00 am in Chom

Bak village, Samrong Tong district, Kampong Speu. Police said Phan was chopped in

the head by his friend Choup Chhorn, who was immediately arrested. Chhorn told police

that Phan had tried to steal his five chi gold necklace.

FEBRUARY 14: Police sent suspected thief Sok Sothy, 19, to Calmette Hospital

for treatment after he was beaten at 9:30 pm in Psar Thmei 3 precinct, Phnom Penh.

Police said he was arrested and beaten by a mob after he tried to steal the property

of garment worker Kouy Eng Seang, 26.

FEBRUARY 14: Pou Tong, 51, was shot and wounded at around 10 pm in Tuol

Bakorm village, Prey Chhor district, Kampong Cham. Police said Tong was shot three

times with an AK-47 while attending his niece's wedding. His wife told police that

she suspected their neighbor, Nget Rin, 40, was behind the attack as Tong had recently

threaten him with a knife.

FEBRUARY 16: Chea Va, 35, a gold vendor, was robbed at 11:45 am in Trapaing

Chong market in Bakan district, Pursat province. He told police that three gunmen

threatened him with a gun, fired several times into the air, then stole 50 damleung

of gold. Police shot dead two of the men and arrested accomplice Kim Vuthy, 40, after

they tried to escape on a motorbike.

FEBRUARY 16: Police are looking for a 30-year-old man, Pork Van, who escaped

into a forest after committing murder in Anlong Thom village, Svay Leu district,

Siem Reap. Police said the man was angry at his wife Ry Thei, 24, after she refused

to give him money, and beat her three times on the head.

FEBRUARY 17: Police arrested fortune-teller Prum Samoeun, 52, after he was

accused of rape in Kraing Sbov village, Kampot province. The victim told police Samoeun

had tricked her into removing her skirt so that he could cut off a mole to promote

good luck in her life.

FEBRUARY 17: Nam Rout, 25, was arrested after a murder committed at noon in

Tra Maung village, Me Muot district, Kampong Cham. Police said Rout killed his brother-in-law,

Som Yeak, 37, after Yeak tortured Rout's sister. Yeak was chopped to death and his

head was cut off with a knife.

FEBRUARY 17: Police arrested Oeun Rith, 17, after he was accused of a murder

committed the previous week in Kar Kap village, Teuk Phos district, Kampong Chhnang.

Police said he killed his 6-year-old cousin, Oeun Srey Nis, and stole her three hun

gold earrings while she was looking after the family cow.

FEBRUARY 18: Iet Mao, 60, the owner of a massage and hairdressing shop, filed

a complaint requesting the arrest of fortune-teller Chan Srey, 29, after she was

accused of a theft in O'Russei 2 precinct, Phnom Penh. The woman told police that

Srey stole her jewelry worth $30,000 while she was blessing her to promote good luck

in her life.

FEBRUARY 18: Nang Sovan, 19, a student, was sent to Calmette Hospital after

being knifed in an argument at 7:50 pm in Psar Thmei 1 precinct, Phnom Penh. A witness

told police that Chan Dara screamed at Sovan and chopped him three times for staring

at him while he and other students were welcoming the President of Singapore's visit.

Police arrested Dara.

FEBRUARY 18: Police arrested two suspected robbers who tried to escape

on a motorbike at midnight in Chun Long village, Siem Reap province. Chiem Chanda,

24, told police that his two friends, Soeun Sophea, 23, and Meas Chanbunny, 22, tried

to steal his motorbike after they persuaded him to sing a karaoke song after consuming

three bottles of beer.

FEBRUARY 18: Mao Sophorn, 20, a rat hunter, was shot dead at 3:45 pm in Sammaki

village, Thmar Pouk district, Banteay Meanchey. Police said Sophorn was shot with

an M-16 by a Thai military policeman while leaving the forest near the border. Police

said Prum Vanna, 22, a motodop driver, was wounded at the same time after he was

shot in the thigh.

FEBRUARY 19: Yim Hen, 25, was sent to Calmette Hospital for treatment after

being knifed during an argument at 11:30 pm in Srah Chak commune, Phnom Penh. Police

said he was stabbed in the chest by Chea Vantha, 18, who was drunk, and later arrested.

FEBRUARY 19: A 26-year-old man, Dom Van, was found hanged from a mango

tree at around 4 am in Taing Phleung village, Bateay district, Kampong Cham. Police

said the presence of a nearby bottle of poison led them to believe that Van had killed

himself.

FEBRUARY 19: Kim Phall, 36, was sent to the provincial hospital for treatment

after being axed at 6 am in Samrong Takok village, Ek Phnom district, Battambang.

Police said Phall was chopped four times by his neighbor San Khan, 33, with whom

he had argued over a chicken. Khan was angry that Phall had thrown his chicken down

a well. Khan was arrested.

FEBRUARY 19: Kim Chhunly, 32, a village chief from the royalist Funcinpec

party, was shot dead at 9 pm in Prey Loeu village, Banteay Meas district, Kampot

province. Police gave no reason for the killing, only saying Chhunly was shot in

the waist with an AK-47 while holding his baby.

FEBRUARY 20: Lim Vuthy, 15, a pupil at Tuol Tumpong Primary School, was

shot and wounded at 6:30 am in Tuol Svay Prey commune, Chamkar Morn district, Phnom

Penh. Vuthy told police three gunmen shot him in the thigh while he was calling for

help after the men stole a motorbike from Sim Buntha, 18. Buntha was beaten on the

head with the butt of the gun in the attack.

FEBRUARY 20: Police arrested a 15-year-old boy, Chuon Vutha, after he was

accused of theft at noon in Samrong Snor village, Ek Phnom district, Battambang.

Bou Chomroeun, 21, told police that Vutha had struck her on the head with a stick

before stealing her five chi gold necklace.

FEBRUARY 20: Um Khleung, 44, an impoverished farmer, was sent to hospital

after being axed in an argument at around 9 am in Sre Praing village, Angkor Borey

district, Takeo. Police said Khleung was chopped in the temple after he tried to

stop Tum Nhan, 47, from pumping water for his dry season rice crop. Police arrested

Nhan and sent him to the provincial police headquarters.

FEBRUARY 21: Ork Phally, 36, an exchange rate vendor, was robbed in the

early morning while walking to the Pochentong market in Paproak Khangchoeung village,

Dangkor district, Phnom Penh. Phally told police that four men on two motorbikes

threatened him with guns before escaping with his money bag containing two million

riel and $1,000 in cash.

FEBRUARY 21: Noeu Phanit, 23, was beaten to death in the early morning

in Domnak Thom village, Meanchey district, Phnom Penh. Police said he was killed

by a mob after he and two accomplices tried to rob a householder at a garbage area.

His two accomplices escaped.

FEBRUARY 21: Police arrested Yoeun Samart, 36, after he was accused of

raping a 43-year-old widow at 10 pm in Srok Chek village, Dangkor district, Phnom

Penh. The woman told police Samart threatened her with a hatchet and raped her while

she was having a shower in the toilet. The woman's brother asked police to arrest

the man after seeing him having sex with his sister. Samart denied the rape accusation

and said she had consented.
