Police strut after bird raid, but locals squawk

Feathers flew on Tuesday as police in Banteay Meanchey province’s Preah Netr Preah district cracked down on a cockfighting match there.

Police said they had grown suspicious that cockfighting was taking place, and when they raided the local ring, participants scattered.

Police nonetheless crowed over their sole arrest: the ring’s organiser. Locals, however, clucked with disapproval, saying they had complained about the ring for years, but police never took action until now. KAMPUCHEA THMEY
