Cambodia may not be renowned for its Christmas festivities, but thanks to the largesse of tourism, Siem Reap expats are spoilt for choice for Christmas dinners and lunches. The Insider has visited a number of restaurants around town to see what’s available for those with Santa-sized appetites.
The list is by no means exhaustive, but it gives an insight in just what can be devoured around Siem Reap during the silly season.
For those with budgets to match their appetites, there are the five star hotel grand spreads.
The Sofitel gives options for a Christmas Eve buffet or a set menu. The buffet including soft beverages and tunes from young carol singers is $85 per person, while a set menu including oysters and seared pigeon costs $70.
Raffles is charging $95 for a Christmas Eve pool side buffet. The menu is enormous, and includes a roasted suckling pig on the spit, Pacific lobster, and Norwegian salmon. On Christmas Day, the hotel is also serving a $38 brunch including turkey, grilled lamb and range of Japanese delights.
Sokha is featuring a Christmas Day buffet dinner at $80 per person, including drinks.
Victoria Angkor hosts a Christmas Day brunch buffet at a very reasonable $25. This includes the usual Christmas favourites of turkey, oysters, bbq and free sparkling wine.
FCC Angkor has a menu for Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day lunch and dinner. It’s $55 for a four course meal including roast turkey, pork belly, and a baked Alaska dessert, all with a glass of champagne.
The Soria Moria has a Scandinavian-themed buffet dinner on Christmas Eve at $29 per person, including roast pork belly, Swedish meatballs, sauerkraut, and free gløgg, a sort of mulled wine.
Molly Malones has a Christmas lunch for $28.75 per person which includes roast turkey, Norwegian salmon, and salt and pepper prawns.
Jungle Junction is doing a Christmas set menu lunch for families, at $25 for adults and $10 for kids. This includes a shrimp salad, turkey with cranberry sauce, and a Christmas ham.
The Rivergarden Café has a Christmas day buffet lunch, with pork belly, pepper crusted filet of beef and mashed potatoes for $25 per person.
And for something French, Abacus has a Christmas Day menu for $48. Options include sautéed scallops and king prawns, roasted turkey breast, and oven roasted fillet of salmon.
