Cambodian long-distance runner Ly Nary grabbed an impressive place on the podium of the Ancient Khmer Path race, which features six consecutive daily stages covering a total of 220 kilometres, on Friday as the event concluded in front of the Angkor Wat temple in Siem Reap.

After committing to the third edition of the race just 12 hours before its start in Kampong Thom province on November 30, Nary surpassed her own expectations by finishing third amongst an international field of female competitors.

The 42-year-old came home in a total time of 26 hours, 34 minutes and 41 seconds, just under an hour behind second placed Christina Sittenthaler of Austria and more than three hours off the pace of Russian winner Olya Korzh.

The men’s division had Saudi Arabia’s Mo Foustok triumph after crossing the line on Friday with a total time of 19:52:01. Last year’s runner-up Salvador Calvo of Spain matched his feat again this year, with Canada’s Stan Lee taking third.
