Despite their continental links, few managers in the CC/PPP/CTN Fantasy League had the intuition to select Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa for their squad for gameweek 28. Indeed, just four per cent of fantasy teams

worldwide opted for the Man United signing who heads the charts with 21 points after an outstanding hat-trick against Norwich.

On the other hand, more than a third of managers picked Liverpool’s Luiz Suarez, with the Uruguayan hitman notching his second treble of the campaign to total 21 goals this season.

Kagawa team-mate Wayne Rooney made a welcome return to the Dream Team with a 14-point performance that included a goal and two assists.

Unsurprisingly, the best teams of the gameweek featured Suarez rather than Kagawa as captain.

Top of the tree was Monghak Cambodia FC on 98 points, led by eponymous manager Yong Monghak. Of his winning points total for Monghak, 34 came from fielding Suarez as skipper, while Marouane Fellaini (12) was also an astute addition to his lineup.

Monghak’s complete lack of transfers during the round helped him clinch the weekly spoils over Tim Dubbeldam’s The Black Birds, also on 98 points but with two transfers.

Thus the $20 phone voucher and T-shirt from sponsors Cellcard are winging their way to the Yong household.

With just 10 gameweeks left in one of our most thrilling seasons to date, the overall title seems destined to go to the wire. Just 186 points separate the current leader, Colin Brown’s Scooter City FC on 1,731, with last year’s champion Brenda Wade, and with Mick Wade’s Phnom Penh Villa also lagging back in 39th, it will almost certainly be the end of an era.

Gameweek 29 will see just six fixtures, with the Liverpool v Tottenham clash on Sunday featuring the only two teams in the top seven of the Premier League in action this weekend.
