King of Peking (China and USA, EN)
Big Wong and Little Wong are a close-knit father-son duo, living in China in the 90’s, at a time when home entertainment is taking its first steps. Together, they travel around with a mobile cinema projecting Hollywood movies for local villagers. Unexpected events force Big Wong to take up a job as a janitor in an old Beijing movie theatre, to make enough money to keep his son with him.

Jesus is Dead (Phillipines, EN)
When Iyay learns that Jesus, her estranged husband, has died, she brings her children on a trip through the Philippines to attend their father’s funeral. They embark on a seemingly solemn journey, which quickly turns into a hysterical and colourful series of misadventures. Together with their mom, the 3 children – Jude the transman, Bert the dancer with Down Syndrome and Jay the failure to launch – learn to confront the past and enjoy the ride.

Bhutan’s film industry is young and developed modestly since it’s first productions in the late 1990s. With an average of 20 films per year, local Bollywood style films were produced for the national audience.

Fearless (Sin Miedo) (Spain, Mexico, France/EN)
The audacious, everyday struggle of a group of Guatemalans relatives of the disappeared people during the military dictatorship, fighting to keep the memory of their loved ones alive. A group of Guatemalans extraordinarily requested and obtained the production of a documentary film by the State, following condemnations from the Inter-american Court of Human Rights. The State has since refused to move forward with the project, so relatives of disappeared people produced this film, convinced it is a main instrument of history and memory.

Norbu, My Beloved Yak (Bhutan, Dzongkha/EN)
Samten Norbu, 20, lives in the mountains herding yaks for a rich man in a faraway town called Gasa. Growing up, he develops an inseparable bond with a baby calf – also called Samten Norbu. When Norbu, the yak, is sacrificed for a marriage ritual, Norbu, the young man, is inconsolable. He leaves his village and decides to become a lama. He wanders around the country until he finally finds back the spirit of his beloved yak.

Snow Woman (Japan, Japanese/EN)
One snowy night, in a mountain hut, Minokichi, a hunter, sees a snow woman kill his mentor Mosaku. “Should you tell anyone, I will take your life” she says, then drifts off. A year later, Minokichi meets and marries a beauty named Yuki. She bears him a daughter, Ume. 14 years pass and Ume blossoms into a radiant lady who befriends a sickly Mikio, the village leader’s son and Mosaku’s distant relative. Mikio soon dies in the same hut as Mosaku, with his body showing the same frostbite scars. Minokichi is reminded of that horrid night, and wonders what it was that he saw, and who Yuki really is.

A young mother with a failed marriage behind her, fights daily for her dream to open a hair salon, challenging her fate in an effort to gain her independence and right to happiness. Screened at the Cannes Festival (France) where actress Jasmine Trinca won Un Certain Regard Jury Award for Best Performance.

Legacy Film Lab (KH/EN)
The Legacy Film Lab seeks to encourage Cambodia’s next-generation filmmakers to engage with the country’s past in an effort to better understand the present.LFL gives Cambodian youth the opportunity to tell the history of their country and share their thoughts on the Khmer Rouge Trials in their own words. This project was supported by the British Embassy in Cambodia and the Handa Center for Human Rights and International Justice in partnership with Khmer Mekong Film (KMF).

The dramatic life story of Iwao Hakamada, former professional boxer sentenced to death in 1968 for mass murder and held on death row for 48 years, the longest stint in history. In 2014, he is released when a Japanese court discovers that evidence against him had been fabricated. This documentary attempts to capture Hakamada’s unimaginable solitude and powerful will for victory, through a labyrinth of delusions and fading memories.
