Applications for green hotel competition open: ministry

The Ministry of Tourism has called on hotel business owners to apply for certificates and standard labels of the 8th ASEAN Green Hotel Award for 2022-2024 at headquarters or through municipal or provincial tourism departments.

Applicants must present ministry-issued valid tourism licences and Hotel Classification Certificates of at least three stars, the ministry said on August 10, adding that applications would be accepted until August 15.

The applications will be reviewed from August 16-20, hotels will be inspected from August 23 to October 15, and the winners will be announced in January, it said.

Cambodia Association of Travel Agents president Chhay Sivlin told The Post that the event would contribute to strengthening service and hospitality standards in Cambodia in line with ASEAN member countries.

“The event will also make the 2022 ASEAN Tourism Forum more vibrant because it rewards those in the tourism sector, and on the other hand, it will also encourage hoteliers to strengthen their quality and meet green standards and push all products closely to meet ASEAN standards.

“It is the right time to promote Cambodia’s tourism industry to foreign tour operators and international journalists to show them the reform of service and hospitality standards, that are primed to be presented to the international stage,” she said.

Winners are scheduled to be revealed at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022 (ATF2022), which will take place on January 16-22 in Sihanoukville, where 2,000 participants from more than 25 countries are expected.
