The three-day Cambodia Biz Fair 2023 is coming to Battambang town this weekend, offering farmers, processors, importers, exporters and other stakeholders the chance to meet in person and bring goods made in the eponymous province to the limelight, potentially giving them the leg up they need to thrive, according to Battambang Chamber of Commerce (BCC) president Phou Veasna.

The BCC is due to organise the event under a theme loosely translated as “Together we promote the market for Battambang products”, from 7am-11pm on March 10-12 in the Phou Puy market area of O’Char commune’s Anhchanh village along National Road 5 west of central Battambang town, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Khmer Enterprise, Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC), provincial administration, and other private sector partners.

According to the BCC, the trade fair will feature at least one of each of the following: exhibitions of Cambodian products, business meetings, lectures on business opportunities in the province, vendor competitions, entrepreneurial training courses, and concerts.

Veasna told The Post on March 5 that the BCC invited the CCC and its provincial counterparts, along with national and international businesspeople, to the event to look into and identify the investment potential of Battambang products, in areas such as production, processing and export.

He stressed that the fair will act as great impetus for economic growth, especially in Battambang, by marketing the strengths of handicrafts and other goods from the agricultural, agro-industrial, small- and medium-scale industrial, and processing communities.

“The BCC is optimistic that this weekend’s exhibition event will have solid attendance and … enable direct networking opportunities between producers, processors and exporters to partner up and stimulate economic activity in the province,” he said, adding that about 150 booths had been booked.

Battambang provincial Department of Commerce director Kim Hout expressed support for this and similar events, which he said showcase the potential of the province’s products and businesses as well as improve their recognition; bring in investors and other visitors; and bolster economic growth.

“With business meetings to encourage more commerce, the event will be awfully positive for the province’s enterprises,” he said, suggesting that at least two such expos be held in Battambang each year, in the interest of economic progress.

The Cambodia Biz Fair 2022 was held from November 5-9 at Chumteav Mao beach in Koki village, Bit Traing commune, Prey Nop district, Preah Sihanouk province.

On the occasion of the 11th National Clean City Day on February 27, Battambang town was given the “triple-rumduol flower” honour for the third time at the 3rd Clean City Awards for 2022-2025. The town scored 113 out of 120 points, well above the 90-point threshold for the distinction. The rumduol – also known by its botanical name Sphaerocoryne affinis – is the national flower of Cambodia.

The other “triple-rumduol flower” winners were Sihanoukville and Daun Penh district, as well as Siem Reap, Kep, Kampot and Kampong Cham towns.

The “double-rumduol flower” winners were Tuol Kork and Prampi Makara districts, as well as Kampong Chhnang, Banlung, Pursat, Poipet town, Chbar Mon, Kratie, Sisophon, Stung Sen, Prey Veng and Svay Rieng towns.
