Minister of Commerce HE Pan Sorasak led a ministry delegation to visit the CP Cambodia Co, Ltd food processing factory in Kampot province on April 3, 2023.

The visit was attended by Senate spokesperson HE Mam Bun Neang and Senate Committee chairman HE Kong Sareach, with a secretary of state and an adviser to the Cambodian government also present, as well as officials from the Ministry of Commerce and other relevant institutions.

The event was hosted by senior CP Cambodia management, including its president Wittaya Kreangkriwit and vice-president Paitoon Wongkatawethin.

During the visit, HE Pan Sorasak discussed the Ministry of Commerce’s responsibilities regarding the regular monitoring of market prices for pork with HE Mam Bun Neang, HE Kong Sareach and the CP representatives.

They also talked about the ministry’s preparing of reports on food security and the government’s strategic plans, as well as collating the prices of other essential commodities from capital and provincial markets.

The participants discussed the investment potential of CP’s pig production and wider business operations to balance the demand for pork with local production.

They also explored ways of strengthening food safety and enhancing the procurement of raw materials for animal feed, such as red corn, cassava, bran and rice.

Minister of Commerce HE Pan Sorasak introduced some important recommendations for CP Cambodia:

• Expanding the scope of its project to promote the raising of pigs to increase food security in the country;

• Continuing to actively cooperate with the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on collecting raw materials – such as red corn, cassava, bran and rice – from local farmers for the production of animal feed;

• Raising standards in Cambodia for animal feed and in animal husbandry, as well as at pig and chicken meat processing factories, and expanding opportunities to enter markets comprehensively and more sustainably;

• Further increasing cooperation with provincial departments of commerce in target provinces to plan the supply of raw materials for animal feed, as well as monitor prices of agricultural products to prevent any drop.

Wittaya Kreangkriwit said CP was pleased to work with the government on raising standards in food production, and improving quality and quantity to meet market demand, as well as helping farmers and providing more information to Cambodian people on proper food hygiene.

The CP Cambodia president added that the Kampot food processing factory was the first in Cambodia where the pigs came from standardised farms.

This resulted in advanced controlled pork processing, whereby the quality of the meat is monitored from the farm to the customer, ensuring Cambodians eat pork that is fresh, hygienic and safe, as well as reasonably priced.

Minister of Commerce HE Pan Sorasak and the delegation were later given a tour of the CP Cambodia food processing factory.

They were also shown around an exhibition on the site and given an overview of CP’s operations, from the feed business to animal husbandry, and from food processing to franchising.
