On behalf of the government, Prime Minister Hun Sen received a $1 million donation from Orkidē Development Co Ltd on December 15, for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines.
The contribution came following Prime Minister Hun Sen’s announcement on December 7 of the government’s plan to procure one million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines for the first phase of the Kingdom’s public vaccination drive in the fight against the pandemic.
Frontline workers and Cambodian citizens identified to be in high risk categories will be inoculated with the vaccines for free. The announcement came shortly after the recent resurgence of the pandemic through community infection in the Kingdom.
This contribution to the nation’s vaccine fund is not the property developer’s first foray into philanthropic endeavours. Over the years since its establishment, Orkidē Development has been involved in supporting various charities and social activities that have included donations to the Cambodian Red Cross Society, orphanages and significant contributions to the government’s national disaster relief fund.
