Vietnam has recorded its 36th Covid-19-related death – the first since September 3.

The deceased patient is an 89-year-old woman with a history of diabetes and hypertension. She died on May 15.

According to information released by the Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, the woman had a number of underlying medical conditions.

She was taken to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on May 13 with severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19, respiratory failure, hypertension.

The woman was placed on a ventilation machine but died two days later.

Cause of death has been recorded as respiratory failure, severe pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2, hypertension, diabetes and a history of lumbar vertebra collapse.

A total of 127 new local cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Vietnam “in the last 12 hours”, Viet Nam News reported at 2342 GMT on May 15.

This takes the total number of cases to 4,112.

All of the new local transmissions are patients already in lockdown zones.

There are 98 in Bac Giang province, 23 in Bac Ninh province, five in Dien Bien province and one in Hoa Binh province.

The cases in Bac Giang are related to the outbreak at Hosiden Co and Quang Chau Industrial Zones. These were previously quarantined.

All patients are now being treated in Bac Giang General Hospital.

To date, more than 480,000 samples have been tested since April 29.

There are currently 104,000 people in quarantine at hospitals, quarantine centres and at their homes.

On May 15, more than 7,000 people were vaccinated in Vietnam. By 4pm (0900 GMT) on May 15, almost one million people in Vietnam have been inoculated.
