Award-winning film “Return to Seoul” by French-Cambodian director Chou Davy premiered in cinemas throughout Cambodia on November 18.

The film earned Davy the 15th Asia-Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) honour for Best Director at a gala ceremony on Australia’s Gold Coast on the evening of November 11.

It has also been chosen by Cambodia’s Oscar selection committee as the Kingdom’s entry for the 95th Academy Awards. The Oscars awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023.

The film was sponsored in part by Cambodian production company Anti-Archive, which indicated in a press statement that in North America the film will be distributed by Sony Pictures Classics under exclusive rights.

“Return to Seoul” was co-produced by French company Aurora Films in collaboration with Cambodia’s Anti-Archive, Germany-based Vandertastic Films and Belgium-based Frakas Pictures as well as MereCinema in South Korea.

It depicts a 25-year-old French-Korean woman who was adopted as an infant by a French couple and is returning to Korea for the very first time. She decides to track down her biological parents, but her journey takes a surprising turn.

The film was completed in June and has already won several awards at film festivals around the world.
