Young volunteers provide haircuts to the needy

A group of young people created a hair cut programme and distributed “friendly packages of assistance” to vulnerable people and workers in the informal economy for a day, said a social media post by the Mett Yeung Association, a group of young volunteers who carry out social work.

In cooperation with the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), the Mett Yeung Association provided the hair cut service on November 30 after a “hair and beauty of our friends” campaign was launched.

The association’s executive commission chairperson, Phan Sonita, said the campaign was conducted to help those members of society who may not have the opportunity to access such services.

She added that the association had brought in stylists from well-known hairdressers and barbers’ shops across Phnom Penh to provide the haircuts, so all of the recipients could be assured their hair would be cut beautifully.

“We provided this service to over 1,000 needy people. Not only did we provide them with high-quality haircuts, but also with assistance packages. They also received milled rice and other materials which should improve their daily lives,” she said.

She continued that the “hair and beauty of our friends” campaign had brought together the owners of salons and parlours, and more than 50 barbers and hairdressers had participated.
