Animated Series

BARBIE- Can you imagine it? At 24, I still prefer Barbie animation to Hollywood movies. It may be a little immature, or even childish, but I never feel embarrassed for liking something girlish and fairytale-like. There are so many things to see in Barbie animation, I like to check out the creative costumes and ball gowns. When I am watching, I feel like a teenager all over again. Sometimes I feel so confused about my life and career, but I hear Barbie whisper in my ear, “True courage is pursuing your dream, even when everyone else says it’s impossible,” and I feel empowered!

Movie Star

Yoon Eun Hye - Like most of the city’s youth, I admit that I’m quite a big fan of K-pop. Well, if you ask me who my favourite South Korean star is, then I would say the “not sexy but cute” actress Yoon Eun Hye. She was a former baby-VOX (Voice of Expression), a well-known Korean girl band. She’s not only able to sing, but also capable of acting in different roles from average city girl, ugly farm woman, socialite and princess. Her acting seems to reflect the current themes in society. While she is Korean, I can not help but feel that her movies speak for what is in my mind.

Song

Just Stand Up - Celebrities are possibly the most influential people when it comes to drawing the public’s attention. Besides “Heal the World” from the king of pop MJ, “Just Stand Up” (to cancer) by Byonce and others will forever be a super-cool song in my book. I imagine that for the millions of people in the world suffering from cancer, the song lights up their day and gives them hope. “The mind keeps thinking you’ve had enough, but the heart keeps telling you don’t give up.…”

Recording Artist

Mariah Carey - The Hero hitmaker, who is mixed race and well-known for her extraordinarily high voice, has been my favourite artist since I was in elementary school. I remember dancing along with her song in my bedroom, and I have loved her ever since. Along with many local artists, I feel I have grown up with Mariah’s songs. And it is true, she has been making number one hits since the early 90s. Mariah will remain a must-listen musician for years to come thanks to her unique voice and diva look. Not only does she sound great, Mariah’s songs tell interesting stories and they are elevating to women everywhere.
