In the past, parents liked to check up on their children by riding them to school or confirming with the school whether their child is attending their classes. Now, advanced technology is helping to make the lives of parents easier.

With just the click of a mouse, parents will be informed about their children, where they are and whether they performed well in class.

CAMEMIS is a kind of administration system. It allows the teacher, administrator, staff and parents to interact at the same time through immediate comment on the internet. The system is divided into different functions.

Teachers can upload the student’s score on a test. School directors can check the overall administration process and financial performance of a particular school. The administration, can update the absence rates of students, and then the parents of a student will automatically receive a text message if their child is not at school.

Lon Chanborey, an advisor to CamFirst Technologies, the company supportng the CAMEMIS system, said the system will help the country step into the future of technology, and at the same time assist students and school administrators.

“It helps the administration to be more accurate and just. At the same time, it’s a fast process which puts parents at ease.” Borey said.

Understanding the advantages of technology, a private school in Takeo Province is the first Cambodian school to use the system.

Tep Kosal, Director of Tep Kosal International School, said, “It’s not so important to make the school system modern, but it is important to have a comfortable and trustworthy system in the school.”

Although there are difficulties regarding the limitation of parental understanding and the lack of skill in internet use in the countryside, users of the system expect the situation to improve.

“Like Facebook, when people eager to know, they will try to learn to use it,” says Tep Kosal. “Then, it can also contribute to the increasing of understanding of countryside people on using the system.”
