Another one million doses of Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine that Cambodia has purchased from China are scheduled to touch down in Phnom Penh on May 23.

According to Ministry of Health spokeswoman Yuok Sambath, this is the fifth batch of Covid-19 vaccine purchased from China, with the first shipment of 1.5 million doses arriving on March 26.

As of May 21, Cambodia has vaccinated 2,226,446 people in a campaign administered by the ministries of Health and National Defence since February 10.

The Kingdom has so far procured a total of 4.5 million doses including 1.7 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine donated by China; 2.5 million doses bought from Chinese firm Sinovac; and 324,000 doses of AstraZeneca provided through the World Health Organisation COVAX initiative.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has said Cambodia planned to procure more than 20 million doses to inoculate 10 million people in the ongoing fight against Covid-19.
