Minister of Tourism Thong Khon said that the cleanup of the environment is not just a one day per year activity but must be done year-round with regularity, especially in advance of the 32nd SEA Games in 2023.

The remarks came as Khon, who also heads the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, participated in the campaign to “Cleanup the Pitch” on December 31 at Morodok Techo National Stadium.

The event brought together about 500 people, including representatives from the Phnom Penh municipal administration, volunteers from the Cambodia Red Cross, members of the young scouts, sportsmen and women, residents of Chroy Changvar district and Morodok Techo National Stadium employees.

“We don’t clean up the environment just for a day, we all have to do it on a regular basis for the environment to be clean and green surrounding us,” he said. “The clean and green stadium campaign aims to show that all the venues of the 32nd SEA Games 2023 will be clean and green to boost the image of our whole nation.”

Director General of the General Department of Environmental Knowledge and Information, Ken Serey Rotha, said he supported the campaign fully because it served as an educational opportunity that would increase respect for and general knowledge about the environment for all involved.
