Police on August 8 sent a suspect to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court two days after his arrest for allegedly throwing acid on his estranged wife in Chroy Changvar district’s Prek Leap village and commune in March.

Eng Sophea, director of the municipal police’s serious crimes bureau, identified the suspect as Hean Buntheang, a 39-year-old motorbike taxi driver living in the district’s Bak Kheng commune.

He said the suspect had been referred to the investigating judge.

Sophea said the arrest was based on a warrant issued by Judge Ek Polifil on June 14. According to the warrant, seen by The Post on August 8, the incident took place in front of a school in the village on March 12.

A district police report showed that the suspect fled the scene and continued to threaten the victim through Facebook, saying he would kill her.

“To protect the victim, we order all law enforcement officers to search for Hean Buntheang and hold him in custody, pending investigation,” the June 14 warrant read.
