Alleged rapist on trial

PHNOM Penh Municipal Court yesterday heard the case against a man charged with raping an underage girl, court officials said. The accused, 31-year-old Im Sovan, was arrested and detained on September 7 following a complaint from the girl’s parents that he had intercourse with their 13-year-old daughter up to seven times in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh, during their alleged two-month relationship. The accused pled guilty to all charges against him, but claimed the sexual acts were voluntary.
