Three of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s favourite Chinese classical quotes were selected for a special broadcast today, April 17, to celebrate Xi’s two-day visit to Cambodia. Xi landed at Phnom Penh International Airport this morning, at 11.30am.
The three quotes selected were: “The delicious taste of soup depends on the blending of different spices”, “The key to national governance is to start with increasing the people's income” and “What the people like must be promoted; what the people hate must be suppressed”.
The broadcast of these Chinese classical quotes was organised by Cambodia’s Ministry of Information, in collaboration with China Central Radio and Television, Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Ministry of Tourism and the Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC).
According to video clips released by the RAC, the quote “The delicious taste of soup depends on the blending of different spices” refers to the diversity of human civilisations, which is a fundamental characteristic of the world and a source of human development.
The second quote, “The key to national governance is to start with increasing the people's income”, emphasises people-centred development, steadfastly pursuing shared prosperity, prioritising poverty eradication, improving living standards and serving the people, which is the mission of the Chinese Communist Party, the academy explained.
The third quote, “What the people like must be promoted; what the people hate must be suppressed”, focuses on developing the economy and protecting the ecological environment for the well-being of the people.
“Through this programme, we can continue to learn from China’s development concepts, enhance media exchanges between the two countries and document practical cooperation, such as the Diamond Hexagon Cooperation, joint development of industrial and technological corridors, and the fish and rice corridors, to promote cultural exchanges in various fields for the benefit of both nations’ people,” said Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra.
Speaking at a launch event for the broadcast, RAC president Sok Touch noted that Cambodian-Chinese relations have existed for a thousand years, as evidenced by inscriptions on some temple walls, and these ties have grown stronger in the present.
“I firmly believe that broadcasting the programme ‘Xi Jinping’s Favorite Chinese Classical Quotes’ will be a significant catalyst in fostering deeper understanding between our two countries, among both the public and academics,” he said.
