Another man has been arrested in connection with a December 19 armed robbery at the home of online lotion celebrity An Sieu Mey in western Phnom Penh, the National Police reported.

The arrest was made on December 23 at 1pm at a bus station in southeastern Battambang province, in Moung village of western Moung Russey district’s Moung commune. Police named the suspect as Net Phaimony, 42, a resident of southern Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district.

According to a video clip of the incident released by the Military Police, which is also assisting in the investigation, a band of robbers posing as officials used a fake court order to convince Sieu Mey into opening the door to her home.

The National Police identified Phaimony as the man in police uniform who showed Sieu Mey the forged document.

The robbery was allegedly orchestrated by Khmer Rise Party president Sok Sovann Vathana Sabung, better known as William Guang who was arrested on December 20.

Phnom Penh municipal Military Police commander Rath Sreang on December 21 said Vathana Sabung admitted during questioning that he was responsible for plotting the robbery and leading the gang.

Sieu Mey made statements to a local media outlet in the aftermath of the crime indicating that the jewellery stolen by the gang was worth nearly $2 million.

Phaimony was taken to the criminal department under the National Police for further action.

More than 10 people have been apprehended for involvement in the robbery.
