The Australian government will donate A$500,000 (US$457,000) to the
Cambodian side of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal (KRT), Bob McMullan,
Australian parliamentary secretary for international development
assistance, announced April 3 during a three-day visit to Phnom Penh.
“It is very important that the court makes progress and we didn’t want
to see it stop because of budget deficit on the Cambodian side,”
McMullan said. Australia also announced they would give A$570,000 to
help with preparations and education programs in the run up to the
Cambodian national elections in July. (Cat Barton)
