Authorities to relocate Tonle Sap Vietnamese

Authorities to relocate Tonle Sap Vietnamese

Kampong Chhnang provincial authorities plan to relocate around 1,000 Vietnamese people living on the Tonle Sap river in Kampong Chhnang town next Monday.

Kampong Chhnang provincial governor Chhour Chandoeun said yesterday that the relocation is necessary to maintain the water quality.

He noted that the families have agreed to move. Quoting another local authority, the Ministry of Information said those living along the river in Kampong Chhnang town will be moved to a 40ha plot of land.

The remaining 2,000 families from other parts of the province would be relocated next year.
