The pretrial chamber at the Khmer Rouge tribunal Tuesday dismissed a request by former KR foreign minister Ieng Sary's lawyers to appoint a psychiatric expert to assess whether he is mentally fit to stand trial. The request, which was filed in March, said the examination would evaluate Ieng Sary's ability to assist in his own defence. Ieng Sary, 83, is awaiting likely charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
