Phnom Penh municipal governor Khuong Sreng has given the green light to Covid-19 booster shots for delivery drivers and informal workers in the capital from September 18.

The decision was made on September 17, the same day that Prime Minister Hun Sen instructed the governor to ensure that these individuals receive priority access to an additional dose of the coronavirus jab.

Sreng noted in a statement that the new campaign relies on a herd immunity strategy to mitigate SARS-CoV-2, especially its Delta variant, and underpin a full reopening of all sectors.

He urged delivery companies to allow and encourage staff members to take the booster, and suggested informal workers promptly get the shot.

The governor emphasised that anyone exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms on the day of their booster ought to get a rapid test to confirm that they are negative for the coronavirus, prior to their appointment.
