Phnom Penh municipal governor Khuong Sreng at a meeting on January 6 praised commune chiefs and clerks and relevant authorities for their service to the people and doing their bit in the battle against the third coronavirus wave, from February 20 to December 19, opening the door to a full resumption of social activities.

On December 20, the first day in 10 months with zero reported Covid-19 deaths, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced an end to the Kingdom’s third outbreak – dubbed the “February 20 community event”, marking the date it was first detected.

But as the Kingdom emerges from the pandemic and plans for 2022, and as Cambodians resume life in the “new normal” circumstances, public services too must adjust and adapt to the post-Covid landscape.

At January 6’s meeting, the municipal governor told chiefs and clerks from the capital’s 105 communes to serve the interests of their fellow residents and ensure that public services are provided in a timely manner, and encouraged them to do their best to fulfil their duties.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration affirmed in a statement: “Whatever the needs of the people are, they [commune chiefs and clerks] have to provide them with the corresponding service, in a transparent and timely manner.”
