Officers from the Directorate-General of Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Repression (CCF) seized about 600kg of perishable goods and nearly 1,000 litres of counterfeit alcohol (methanol) in four provinces on December 17.

An operation checking the quality of market goods was conducted on December 17 by officers from CCF branches in Battambang, Kandal, Kampong Cham and Kampong Thom provinces.

The officers found 568.5kg of expired perishable goods and 978 litres of methanol labelled as regular alcohol which they seized and destroyed after issuing fines to the owners.

In Koh Kong and Preah Sihanouk provinces, CCF officers also checked for non-compliant goods on December 16 and distributed leaflets on the dangers of asbestos at construction supply stores. They found 85.8kg of expired perishable goods on the market, which they seized from vendors who were also fined.

CCF officers also checked markets in Preah Sihanouk and Takeo provinces and Phnom Penh on December 15, finding 451kg of expired, counterfeit or unlabelled goods.

In the five days from December 13-17, CCF seized more than one and a half tonnes of non-compliant goods.

And in the first 11 months of this year, CCF officers also checked on the quality, quantity and retail prices of petrol at fuel stations and depots across the country. They found that 784 petrol stations and depots were conducting business dishonestly regarding the amounts they were dispensing or the quality of the fuel being sold. A total of 773 fuel businesses were fined and seven cases were referred to court.
