Cambodia is in the process of finalising the Comprehensive Intermodal Transport Master Plan 2022-2030 (CIT-MP), as the development of transport infrastructure remains central to the government’s strategy to stimulate the national economy, said Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol.

The CIT-MP will include master plans for infrastructure development, including roads, railways, waterways, airways, ports, logistics and interactive transport.

Chanthol and Tassilo Brinzer, director-general of the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (EuroCham Cambodia) presided over an April 20 Transport and Logistics Forum in Phnom Penh.

In a social media post, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport said that 150 hard and soft infrastructure development projects were included in the CIT-MP. The projects will require an investment of about $30 billion in the next 10 years.

The post announced that feasibility study projects were being conducted on a regular basis to enhance connectivity across the country. It also detailed several potential and ongoing projects.

The Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway Project was scheduled to open in mid-2023, while the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap Expressway Project was still being studied.

The government has also urged the transport ministry to cooperate with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to seek out investment partners for a planned high-speed rail upgrade of the existing Phnom Penh-Poipet rail lines.

The Chanthol announced to the forum that the Bassac River Navigation and Logistics System project is receiving a lot of attention, while the first and second stages of the expansion of the deep-sea port in Sihanoukville was well underway.

“In addition, many of the Kingdom’s roads are being widened from two to four lanes, with the surfaces being upgraded from double bituminous surface treatment pavement (DBST) to asphalt concrete (AC),” he added.
