The Asian Development Bank's 2001 Outlook report is predicting economic growth
of 5% in 2001, up half a percent on the flood-affected year 2000, with the growth
rate rising to 6% in 2002. Hopes for the coming year are pinned on expanded tourism,
the continued development of the garment sector and the increase in the area of land
under cultivation. The report also warns the economy will need to sustain rapid growth
in order to keep pace with a rapidly increasing labor force.
