Education staff members told to get second dose of Covid jab

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has announced that all staff members at public and private academic institutions who have received their first vaccine shots are now required to return for their second doses from April 20 onward at schools designated by the district administrations.

The ministry said that with Phnom Penh and adjacent Kandal province’s Takmao town in lockdown, teachers will not be allowed to cross into other districts without having their Cambodian ID cards and their Covid-19 vaccination cards from their first appointment along with them.

The ministry added that the vaccination sites for the second doses include the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh and Hun Sen Bun Rany Phsar Doeum Thkov High School in Chamkarmon district; Toul Svay Prey High School in Boeung Keng Kang district; Bak Touk Primary School in Prampi Makara district; Kolab I Primary School in Daun Penh district; Tang Krasaing Primary School in Por Sen Chey district; Tuol Ampil High School in Dangkor district; Phnom Penh Thmey Primary School in Sen Sok district; Kamboul Primary School in Kamboul district; Russey Keo High School in Russey Keo district; Chea Sim Santhormok High School in Tuol Kork district; Chea Sim Chroy Changvar High School in Chroy Changvar district; Hun Sen Chak Angre High School in Meanchey district; Chea Sim Chhuokva High School in Prek Pnov district; and Chbar Ampov High School in Chbar Ampov district.

Academic staff in Kandal province’s Takmao town will be vaccinated with their second doses at the Chey Chumneas Referral Hospital and the Svay Ro Lum Health Centre.

Ministry spokesman Ros Soveacha said the Covid-19 vaccination campaign for the education sector was going well and that a total of 113,223 staff members from academic institutions had been vaccinated thus far.

In order to meet the vaccine demand for the education sector workforce, the ministry plans to request additional vaccines from the Covid-19 vaccination commissions across the country and from the Ministry of Health to cover an additional 55,000 education workers in the second phase.

Of those 55,000 academic staff members, about 15,000 are from the national unit in Phnom Penh or from development partners and NGOs in the education sector as well as some private education institutions.
