Kandal provincial governor Kong Sophorn has placed eight more villages in lockdown, designating them into Red, Orange and Yellow Zones in a bit to curb the spread of Covid-19 there.
According to the decision dated April 30, the villages include Svay Chhrum, Pong Teuk, Andoung, Thnaut M'derm, Chak, Prey Boeung and Kompot Sbov in Bek Chan commune and Prey Porpel in Perk commune, all in Ang Snuol district.
In Bek Chan commune, the villages of Svay Chrum, Pong Teuk, Andoung and Thnaut M'derm are now designated as red zones; Chak, Prey Boeung and Kompot Sbov as orange; and Prey Porpel as yellow.
"The lockdown measures take effect May 1 midnight through May 14," Sophorn said.
In red zones, people are barred from leaving their homes or even doing sport activities or exercise outside of their residences. Exemptions are granted to those who need to leave the zone for medical reasons or other emergencies, or as permitted by the authorities. In orange zones, people cannot leave their areas without the permission of the authorities.
In yellow zones, residents can travel and go about their business. Gatherings of more than 10 people are forbidden, except among household members in the same home. An 8pm-5am curfew in the zones remain in effect.
Sophorn reiterated his warning that anyone caught violating the lockdown measures is subject to legal action.
