A group of 22 families from Tuol Kork district’s Boeung Kak 1 commune protested at Phnom Penh Municipal Hall on Thursday, again demanding compensation for giving up their land. Um Bonavy, a resident representative, said that on February 22 authorities ordered them to move to Kandal’s Ponhea Loeu district because they wanted to redevelop a road. “We want about US$1,000 to relocate,” he said. Mann Chhoeun, deputy governor of Phnom Penh, said he could not promise their demands would be met.
