Four men were sentenced by Takeo Provincial Court on April 21 to one year in prison and ordered to pay one million riel ($250) each in fines for violating the government Covid-19 measures.

Provincial court spokesman Nget Davuth told The Post on April 21 that the men were charged under articles 10 and 11 of the law on the control of Covid-19 and other contagious diseases. The law bans gatherings to prevent the transmission of the disease.

Davuth identified the four as Chib Tony, 24; Chib Dareach, 26; Phen Sokhorn, 26; and Khieu Chin, 45. They are the residents of Boeung Tranh Kang Choeung commune in the province’s Samrong district.

Davuth said that on April 18, the four men had gathered to drink and play loud music in violation of the ban.

Police seized a speaker and returned three motorcycles to their families.
