FIFTY-EIGHT Cambodian civil society organisations released a joint statement yesterday condemning a letter sent by an independent Thai scholar to the director general of UNESCO, alleging that the Preah Vihear temple was the source of recent Thai-Cambodian tensions and accusing UNESCO of bias toward Cambodia. The statement referred to the letter’s author, Thepmontri Limpayorm, as an “ultra-nationalist” and said it was part of a campaign of “intoxication” designed to sway opinion in favour of Thailand.
