Battambang provincial police sent a 31-year-old man to court on Wednesday after he was held for allegedly killing his wife in Boeung Run village, Samlot district, Samlot commune.

The victim, a 29-year-old schoolteacher, is believed to have been killed while returning home from school on Sunday evening, said a national police report.

Provincial deputy police chief Chet Vanny said authorities suspected that jealousy and a history of domestic violence led up to the murder.

“We arrested the suspect near the scene of the crime. After having questioned many people, including relatives and teachers, we suspected that the victim’s husband killed her. She had gone missing and we found clues which led to his arrest,” Vanny said.

A district police officer told The Post on condition of anonymity that “investigators concluded that the victim was murdered by suffocation”.

The victim’s motorbike and mobile phone were found near her body, said the police officer.

According to PPT News, the victim was reported missing after she left her school at 11am on Sunday and her body was found by a local villager lying face down in a forested area the following day at around 5pm.

Provincial court spokesman Tieng Samboo said she could not comment on the case as she had not received the suspect or documents regarding the case as of Tuesday afternoon.
